For over 50 years, Cambridge Women’s Center (CWC) has been a progressive community space in Cambridge, Mass. uplifting, supporting, and providing services for women of all backgrounds and experiences.

The Challenge

Cambridge Women’s Center was striving to professionalize the organization by hiring a full-time Executive Director and invited Schick Creative to evaluate the role and develop a hiring promotional campaign.

The Solution

Over the course of one month, Schick Creative:

  • Met with lead stakeholders;
  • Advised the Board of Directors to shift from a permanent to interim Executive Director position;
  • Redefined role and updated job description; and
  • Prepared and executed the promotional hiring campaign.

The Communication Plan

Job description:

  • Rewrote job description to reflect the Interim role responsibilities, terms, and credentials needed.  

 

Email Marketing:

  • Wrote and designed stand-alone email from perspective of Board Chair to CWC community through MailChimp.
  • Open rates were 54% and Click Through Rate 4.8%, well above industry averages.
  • Drafted email template for Board members to personalize and send to their networks.
  • Wrote summary notice for CWC newsletter email.

 

Website:

  • Reviewed CWC website and made minor site edits while recommending that a comprehensive site refresh should be considered in the near future.
  • Wrote and published an article about the role on CWC’s blog.
  • Refreshed and posted job description on Job Openings website section.

 

Social Media:

  • Designed social media graphics, wrote text, and posted on LinkedIn and Instagram with link to role. 
  • Assessed LinkedIn paid advertising.

 

Outreach:

  • Prepared listing of local organizations, including area university alumni networks and professional organizations, for their recruiter to contract.

Joe has been a business development professional in the publishing and software industries since the early 2000s, holding positions at Pearson, Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Bibliotheca, and Plotagon, and has extensive experience with negotiating international content licensing deals. Along the way, he learned to write, pitch, present, and sell. Joe is a native of Pennsylvania and a graduate of Brandeis University. He’s a fan of historical thrillers, classical music, tasty food, and Oxford commas.
